Hover’s over

I assume everyone with a faible for Archviz knows this already, but just in case, Ronen Bekerman's Hover challenge is now officially over, with a stunning list of winning images. Special congrats go to Grand Prize winner Benjamin Brosdau, a Vray and Maxwell meister and esteemed member of the Pure crew. Head over here to see the winning entries by some of the most talented artists…

Chair attack

I confess to neglecting my blogging duties of late. But I haven't been entirely idle, as evidenced by this small series of chairs, all of which have now landed in the warehouse. These include the wonderfully James-Bondesque 1964 Karuselli chair (below) by Yrjö Kukkapuro for Avarte; Jerszy Seymour's 2004 Easy Chair (Magis); Chair One (in different flavours) by Konstantin Grcic, also for Magis; Hans Wegner's PP512…

Summer Garden – fresh assets

As all too often, this is quite an old set of renders by now; several months old. I had to do a series of custom plant assets lately. The following renders are from a scene I put together quickly using old building models of mine to showcase the models. The plants were done the hard, old-school way, with polymodelling and a helping hand from the Advanced…

Two private projects

It's been a little while since I last posted images from fully-formed project. So here are two series I finished quite a while back and never really found the time to upload. Both are personal interpretations of existing buildings: Haus M, near Munich, by Titus Bernhard Architekten and residência em aldeia da serra, Brasil, by MMBB Arquitetos. As always, the modeling was done in 3ds Max…

Hover Challenge

Sorry for the late post, but if you haven't done so already, take a look at Ronen Bekerman's new Hover Architectural Challenge, which has started here. You will find some really exciting threads already and a lot to learn. I should mention that I will be a judge on the challenge, together with Ronen and Zoran Gorski (Kizo). You will find an interview with Kizo, a…

CGArchitect 3D award!

I had some great news today after my GH House image won this year's CGArchitect award in the Architectural Image section. Unfortunately, I could not attend the ceremony in Spain on July 7, but Jeff Mottle, CGArchitect's chief guru, kindly sent it to me by post and I can testify that it is huge, shiny, beautiful and very heavy. So thanks to Jeff, thanks to the…

Baby steps with BRIX

EDIT on Oct. 8, 2017: Sadly BRIX is no longer. This post remains for the record, but the software no longer exists. When texturing large expanses of wall or floor with a tile, brick or parquet image, vizualisation artists face a familiar dilemma: how to avoid visible tiling without losing too much resolution? In other words, large maps that show no tiling are either incredibly big…

3D World Portfolio

Just a quick note to say my image, "Bye-Bye Blue Ball", which finished first at the "When we left earth" challenge on CGArts, has just been published in 3D World Magazine (on page 12 of issue 132), and they gave it a nice full page too. A nice reminder of how different, and perhaps nicer, CG looks when printed on paper.
